Peter Goodhew is Professor of Materials Engineering at The University of Liverpool. His research has centred on transmission electron microscopy and he currently chairs the UK SuperSTEM team which is building the world's best analytical electron microscopes at Daresbury Laboratory. He was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. In the recent past he has served as Dean of Engineering and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University. For the next four years he will be Head of the Department of Engineering at Liverpool.
Peter is dedicated to the use of computers in teaching and he has been publishing teaching software for almost twenty years. He is also director of the MATTER team, which still (he asserts) produces the best educational software in the world in the materials field. He has had a thirty-seven-year love affair with computers since programming the Birmingham KDF9 in the mid sixties. This was consummated when he bought his first ZX81 and has been re-consummated many times since!
