We are looking for images that bring materials science and engineering to life - that help us to look at the 'Materials World' in a novel way.

The competition is open to researchers, students, amateur photographers and anyone who can produce a stunning, original image which illustrates an aspect of materials science. We would particularly like to encourage joint submissions from teams of scientists and engineers.

The competition has two categories:

Materials Close Up: for images that reveal the world of materials in a way that can't be seen by the naked eye.

Material Concepts: images that demonstrate a specific concept. The title of the photograph should clearly explain the concept behind the photograph.

Prizes: first prize in each category will be £300 and four runners up prizes of £100 each will also be awarded.
