Question
The scan is shown greatly exaggerated in this simulation. What would be the actual angle through which the beam would be scanned in a STEM with a lens-specimen distance of 1mm when the imaged area is 1µm square?
Click to dismiss
The scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) is a hybrid microscope which uses the scanning of a very small diameter electron beam to form a transmission image of a thin specimen. Its mode of operation is similar to the SEM, while its images are interpreted in similar ways to TEM images.
Notice that the electron beam travels upwards in this microscope. This is traditional for a dedicated STEM.
Try clicking on either of the two detectors (secondary or transmitted) to see how the image changes.
