For the first time in the American continent, the third edition of the World Engineers` Convention – WEC, which has already taken place in Germany and China, intends to gather more than 5 thousand engineers from all over the world in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.

This conference aims to present examples and encourage the sharing of good practice in assessing the achievement of learning outcomes in engineering. It will provide delegates with the opportunity to critically and creatively engage with new ideas and research that should help them develop their own approaches to learning outcomes and programme design.

This New Engineering Foundation Masterclass will include tours of MetaFab and Manufacturing Engineering Facilities, practical demonstrations, examples of current applications, and an outline of future developments, followed by a chance to discuss with fellow practitioners how what has been seen can be incorporated into the teaching environment.

A seminar on finding and processing chemical information. This seminar will provide guidance on what organisations can do for themselves and guidance on outsourcing novelty and infringement searches. There will also be an interactive session demonstrating the online resources available through the RSC (numbers for the interactive session are limited, however, and priority will be given to those who register first).

In this Academic Practice Network Meeting, three studies are presented which take as their focus a deepening understanding of the discourse of policy and how this policy is played out in practice.

The workshop will introduce plagiarism and academic misconduct and how to deter students from doing this. The use of assessment and feedback will also be discussed and how to use this to encourage active learning.

Following the previous 7 years' successful Materials Student Reps’ Weekends, the UKCME once again organised a FREE residential weekend for students studying Materials in both Materials and Engineering Departments, who have been elected to represent their fellow students, either at departmental, faculty or university level.

The number of joint replacements has grown dramatically over the past decade.  With an increasing and ageing population, this is likely to continue.  This one-day event will focus on the mechanical and material considerations of the bearing surfaces used in hip joint replacement.

The 2nd European Plastics News Sustainable Plastics Packaging conference looks at every aspect of minimising the environmental impact of plastics packaging, as well as showcasing innovative and commercial solutions.

"Making the Most of Wood" is a half day MADE Workshop during London Design Festival about wood.  The event will be exploring the fundamentals of wood as a material and designing with it.

Why should a drink be served in a glass receptacle? Does the material used change the taste of the drink? Can a plastic drinks container feel like a quality product?
As part of the London Design Festival, MADE is organising a evening event to find out the answers to these questions and many more.

Following on from last year’s inaugural ISEE symposium, this symposium will encourage the sharing of ideas, innovations and best practice among those involved in the field of engineering education.

The UKCME workshop is focused fully on subject-specific approaches to teaching. It will be delivered by experienced Materials practitioners, with additional contributions from a number of academics teaching Materials who have successfully completed their probationary period.

The conference will focus on many of the technical issues associated with the processing and performance of polymers used in the medical devices industry today.
