The UK Centre for Materials Education is running a FREE residential weekend for students in Materials Departments who have been elected to represent their fellow students at departmental, faculty or university level. This course follows on from a successful weekend last November which was attended by 16 students from departments across the country.
The purpose of the weekend is to help students to appreciate how they can best represent the interests of their fellows, by enabling them to gain an insight into the principles and practice of materials education in institutions across the UK. We hope that students will find the planned activities useful but also that they will meet with, and learn from, students in similar positions in other universities and colleges. The course will be highly interactive and, we hope, will be both enjoyable and useful.
Places are limited and we would like as wide a range of representation from departments as possible. It is our hope that each UK department will propose two students, one of whom is a student with some experience of acting as a student representative, whilst the other would be a newly-elected representative. The UKCME is able to offer this course at no charge to the students and will refund reasonable travel expenses.
The weekend will begin at 6pm on Friday 15 November with arrivals at Darlington Station, followed by dinner and drinks at a local pub. The event will conclude with lunch on Sunday.
