Special Issue - Trends in Materials Science and Engineering Education

Contributions are invited for a special issue of the International Journal of Engineering Education (IJEE)

Manuscripts submitted should reflect recent developments in the teaching and learning of areas related to Materials science and engineering. Topics related to the teaching of materials in arts and crafts disciplines are also welcome. Papers should not focus on the taught content of new programmes but more develop themes related to novel educational developments, pedagogy and educational research.

Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Concept development and concept mapping
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Teaching using Case studies
  • Developing Professional responsibility
  • Tutorials and small group teaching
  • Problem based learning
  • Materials as service courses
  • Materials and service learning
  • Overcoming the challenges of interdisciplinary education
  • Dealing with the broadening scope of “materials”
  • Ecomaterials in the curriculum
  • Innovative approaches to teaching Biomaterials or Nanomaterials
  • Educating for sustainability
  • Demonstration lectures

Submission Deadlines

Jan 31st 2005 Submission of abstract
Feb 28th 2005 Notification of reviewers feedback
April 30th 2005 Submission of draft manuscript
July 31st 2005 Notification of reviewers feedback
Oct 31st 2005 Submission of final revised manuscript
