The next 12 months will see significant changes in the provision and funding of support for quality enhancement in learning and teaching. Two key developments will be the introduction of the Higher Education Academy (Community Briefing - Higher Education Academy) and the establishment of Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) (Community Briefing - Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning). The Learning and Teaching Support Network has been intimately involved in policy consultations with Higher Education Funding Councils over the last 9 months. Now that their proposals are almost finalised we thought it appropriate to brief you on these developments and the support we can offer to ensure you benefit from them.

The UK Centre for Materials Education has been working in close partnership with LTSN Engineering and LTSN Physical Sciences to interpret and respond to government proposals in a way that best represents the interests of our disciplines. We will continue this partnership to provide a co-ordinated programme of support to our subject communities.
