NOISE is a new nationwide campaign funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council. It aims to change 16-19 year olds' attitudes to science and engineering by making these subjects more relevant and accessible. The campaign will have a high-profile launch in London in December 2001.
The campaign will grab the attention of 16-19 year-olds in both their home and school/college lives. By raising the status of science and engineering in their eyes, NOISE will inspire and enthuse the next generation of UK scientists and engineers.
But we know this won't be achieved by running a patronising "Isn't science fun? Isn't science important!" type of campaign. So the emphasis will be on engaging the target audience by talking first and foremost about issues and topics that interest and excite THEM - eg sport, music, fashion, relationships.
The campaign comprises four key mechanisms:
Because NOISE aims to reach out directly to 16-19 year olds, it will provide excellent opportunities for all types of organisations to raise their profile with the target group, both directly AND via the media.
