The LearnEM project
This webpage details the findings of a desk study and survey carried out at ICBL as part of the LearnEm project. LearnEm is a joint project between the Higher Education Academy Engineering Subject Centre and the UK Centre for Materials Education which aims to promote the sharing of learning resources. Our approach is to take resources that, as
a result of IPR, technical or cultural issues, are currently locked into disparate collections, and make them available as learning objects through the Jorum repository.
As a first step in this project we have attempted to identify the current status of relevant resources produced using public funds. We list here information on the development history of the resources, how widely used they were, their current availability and who owns the IPR. This information will help us prioritise which resources to work on during the LearnEm projects, and we hope it will be of use to anyone who is minded to attempt similar work. Some of the resources surveyed have a SearchLT description which provides additional information on the content.
Projects shortlisted by LearnEM team
On discovering a suitable resource, which may be a result of following up on public funding initiatives or may be the result of individuals contacting us, we carry out some research to determine its history and previous use. One key factor is whether we can locate the owner of the resource and whether they are likely to agree to it being repurposed, repackaged and/or published more widely. Selection for further work is dependant on the availability of the resource and evidence of its quality; if a resource is not selected we keep a record of the reasons, which we hope will be useful if anyone else is trying to locate the resource.
To search within the listed descriptions use the search box below.
