The outcome of this project was the production of case studies to support the teaching of first year Undergraduate students in Materials Science, Engineering and Biomedical Science Programmes at the University of Birmingham. It was related to and supplemented a wider project funded through the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS), which involved the development and review of case study learning at the University of Birmingham. Information regarding the case studies developed, and the support materials produced, were uploaded onto the website www.cases.bham.ac.uk. This website provided relevant information to the students taking part in the case studies, particularly information and tips to develop a range of skills (i.e. group work, oral and poster presentations, and report writing) and details on their assessment. It also served as a portal to demonstrate the way the case studies operate. Though the website is static at present, the examples, being generic in nature, are still widely used.
